Confidential adult counselling & psychotherapy. Sessions are offered in-person or online. All counselling is trauma informed and respectful of diversity.
Clinical supervision is available for qualified or trainee counsellors. This is normally offered in an online setting. Sessions are 60 or 90 mins.

My name is Anna and I am a counsellor, psychotherapist and clinical supervisor. I offer talk therapy and integrative counselling approaches to adults who are experiencing deep feelings of anxiety and depression. I am also a trained EMDR practitioner and offer a safe and focussed trauma based psychotherapeutic approach. Previous clients have come to therapy to work through a range of issues including adverse childhood experiences, adult relationship difficulties, menopause, challenging family dynamics, bereavement, addiction, ill health, complex trauma (CPTSD) or managing ADHD.
I use a relationship-centred approach as research shows that meaningful change happens within a safe and supportive therapeutic relationship—one where you can share your worries, or the things you keep private from others, and be held safely with respect and non-judgement.
I try to remove barriers to counselling by offering affordable, flexible options to help clients access the support they need. Sessions can be weekly or fortnightly, online or in-person. Concessions rates are available for low income clients and this can be arranged at the free welcome intro session.
I offer a free 20 minute first welcome session.

Before formally starting working together, a short introduction session would normally take place. This is a free *20-minute consultation which provides an opportunity for us to meet and for you to tell me a bit about yourself and what you hope to get out of counselling. It also offers space to ask any questions and to discuss our working agreement. This normally happens by phone or online.
If you are a counsellor seeking supervision, this would be similar process.
There are different methods of support offered at Insight Scotland.
Insight Counselling: This is normally talk-therapy using an integration of psychological approaches from humanistic, CBT and psychodynamic traditions. Talk-therapy can help gain some personal insight as a necessary first step towards understanding yourself & your relationships. Counselling might also involve learning some basic grounding techniques and somatic exercises if this is right for you. But sometimes talking therapy isn't enough, especially if you are experiencing significant trauma responses. In that case, the Core Insight option below may be helpful.
Core Insight Psychotherapy:
Core Insight is trauma focussed work. As a trained EMDR Practitioner (CPCAB), I offer EMDR which is an evidence based psychotherapy treatment designed to reduce the distress linked to traumatic memories. This requires working through 8 phases from history & treatment plan, preparation and assessment, desensitisation, installation, closure and re-evaluation. Evidence shows this approach to be highly beneficial for CPTSD and PTSD.
You may only be wanting short term counselling or be looking for longer term support. In any case, I normally review our work every 6-8 weeks to check in with how things are going for you and to agree together any changes to the work, review or add new goals or decide any next steps. Endings in therapeutic relationships are important and, where possible, we would hopefully be able to discuss and plan this together when the time seems right.
It is important to me to try and be flexible and accessible to as many people as possible from a range of different circumstances. If you have a special requirement, please let me know and I will try and meet it where possible. I have a limited number of counselling concession rates for individuals with low incomes and flexible ways of working to suit a range of lifestyles.
