Anna McNamara - Insight Therapist, Supervisor and Trainer
Hello, I’m Anna - a counsellor who works with adults experiencing relationship challenges or difficulty managing life in general. These challenges could be down to recent or current life experiences for example a difficult relationship, family breakup, bereavement or a new health diagnosis affecting you or a family member. They might also be as a result of longer term issues including living with post traumatic stress (PTSD/CPTSD), managing anxiety, depression, self esteem, numbness or dissociation.
I use a relationship centred counselling approach and believe that meaningful change happens within a safe and supportive therapeutic relationship where you feel truly seen and understood.
My work can also integrate mindfulness, body work and music therapy where it might be beneficial. I will be offering Eye Movement, Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) from September 2026 and the waiting list is currently open for new clients. EMDR can help with processing distressing experiences and support emotional regulation.
I offer a free 20 minute introductory meeting and can work online or in-person.

Before formally starting working together, a short meeting normally takes place. This is a free *20-minute consultation which provides an opportunity for us to meet and for you to tell me a bit about yourself and what you want to get out of counselling. It also offers space to ask any questions and to discuss our working agreement. This normally happens by phone or online.
If you are a counsellor seeking supervision, this would be similar process.
My aim is to offer you a space which is grounded in a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship. Research has shown that this is a key factor of successful client outcomes. Building this sense of safety and trust will therefore be a key focus of working together so that you can just be you without worrying about judgement or criticism. We will decide a way forward together that takes into consideration your needs and preferences combined with the different types of therapy I can offer. Nothing will ever be decided for you or done to you. You will always be encouraged and supported to make your own choices with no pressure.
You may only be wanting short term counselling or be looking for longer term support. In any case, I normally review our work every 6-8 weeks to check in with how things are going for you and to agree together any changes to the work, review or add new goals or decide any next steps. Endings in therapeutic relationships are important and, where possible, we would hopefully be able to discuss and plan this together when the time seems right.
It is important to me to try and be flexible and accessible to as many people as possible from a range of different circumstances. If you have a special requirement, please let me know and I will try and meet it where possible. I have a limited number of counselling concession rates for individuals with low incomes and flexible ways of working to suit a range of lifestyles.
